Apricot Academy is a K-8 micro-school that opened in 2020 to provide a

place for students and families to access education during the beginning

of the pandemic in a way that focused on students' academic & mental

health in a smaller group setting. Our students are registered

homeschoolers who hire Apricot Academy to teach their children and

provide opportunities for hands-on learning experiences and peer

interactions. After a successful first year, we decided to commit to the

long-term education of our students and support tutoring and alternative

education models for kids in our area. Our model provides a one-room

schoolhouse-type setting for our students. This makes it so that our older

students serve as role models as well as peers for younger students and

gives our middle school students the opportunity and space to enjoy being

the “big kids' while still allowing them to be kids and enjoy their elementary

school years. We all study the same social studies and science themes but

each student does work on their own level. The peer-to-peer teaching is

absolutely incredible to watch. Our students have regular opportunities to show

off their learning to the community. There is a different feel to our student's performances that feature a pride in their work and a deep depth of understanding of content that just radiates from these kids. We could not be more proud to help facilitate their learning.

Having been a public school teacher at a local school that I loved with every fiber of my being I often saw students whose mental health and academic needs were impacted negatively because a public school setting wasn’t always the best fit due to classroom size, behaviors or student dynamics which often lead to bullying. Our setting provides space for not only our students to come together as a community but for their parents and families as well. Our goal is that our school will be the best place for all of our students and families to be, whether it be in the classroom, during a group performance, showcase or family event.

We truly believe that all students should have access to the educational setting that works best for them and their families regardless of their ability to pay, so if Apricot Academy sounds like the right fit for your child please reach out to us. We have scholarships for those in need.
